BOATS/GEAR AVAILABLE FOR SIERRARIOS TRIPS (PERU)

KAYAKS, IKs, and RAFTS AVAILABLE

KAYAKS:

Contributions for joining a normal SierraRios trip include a kayak and paddle for competent paddlers. The above listed boats are in Peru. They will be used for other trips in the future and are be available to rent to members.


OARS: Almost all of our oars in Peru are Cataract SGG (composite carbon/fiberglass material). Anyone in charge of a raft takes responsibility for damage to oars that may occur while in charge of the raft. For 66" wide frames, 9' oars are recommended, though some people prefer 10' oars for a large raft. If you are in charge of a raft, please specify the length of oar you like, otherwise you will be assigned either 9' or 10'. Currently we have:

(21) Cataract SGG 9' oar shafts with Magnum II blades in Peru

There are also six 1-ft exenders so if all 10' oars are taken and you prefer to use a 10' oar, it is possible to convert the 9' oars. However, For 66" wide frames, 9' oars are recommended.

KAYAK PADDLES: There are about 20 kayak paddles available - both bent shaft and straight shaft Werner and AT - most with 30o feathering. The majority are a medium length 197cm but there are some 200 cm and 194 cm. All have standard shaft diameter. All are fiberglass (no carbon). One or two paddles may have 45o feathering, and the two break-apart Werner paddles can be set to different angles. Please ask if you wish to reserve a particular size or type of kayak paddle.

For the inflatable kayaks, we use AquaBound Sting Ray and AT Odessy (fiberglass bent shaft; adjustable angle). Anyone in charge of a kayak takes responsibility for loss or damage to paddles that may occur while in charge of the equipment.
